Dear
Family and friends, On March 28th our youngest son, Chris and his girlfriend Aida became engaged. He proposed on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls in a beautiful spot that they said was very romantic. Well, they figured a month was long enough for an engagement so on Saturday, April 29th they were married on the rooftop of their building overlooking Washington, DC!! The "weather god" shone down on this deliriously happy couple and it turned out to be a beautiful day. We had an idea of what was happening as they called us the previous Sunday with a "hey, how would you guys feel about us getting married next Saturday?" Their DC friends were planning a party at a local watering hole so all they had to do was gather the family and everybody would be in one spot. We said go for it. They absolutely did not want a big wedding with all the attendant hassles and this suited their temperaments to a tee. Luckily, they have family with not many social engagements, so we all gathered in DC. Hotels were at a premium due to some parades going on but all found beds for their weary heads. The wedding took five days to come together. Monday, they went to City Hall and got the license and found a Wedding Celebrant. Aida (aka Gu'u) found a beautiful wedding dress, no alterations required. Chris rented a tux. Photographer was obtained. Hair, makeup, pedicure and manicure appointments made. A limo was lined up to take the kids to a Baltimore (BWI) hotel. A local restaurant in Georgetown on the river had available tables. They had an ice cream cake, our family's fave kind of cake for birthdays and other celebrations, Chocolate Mint (the kid's favorite). Family assembled at their apartment and all finally made it up to the roof. Many beautiful photographs taken with the great backdrop of DC, a few brewskis downed and we all made our way to the restaurant which was lovely and very good food. We
were an hour behind schedule, but Aida's Maid of Honor, Sandy handled the
friends assembling at Mr. Days, the "reception" place".
It was a very relaxed, stress-free day and according to C&A, the
"Perfect Wedding". They
were sooooo happy. It was a joy to
watch them. Everyone that knows
them well, knew this was the perfect couple.
They are fun-loving, adventuresome, very funny and very warm. They are the cherished babies of their families and they show
us much love and respect. Both
sides of the family recognize their absolute devotion and commitment to each
other. We
all had a ball, including C&A. As
Chris had to be back in DC for reserve on Thurs, they are having a short
honeymoon in Bermuda. Chris also
heard last week that he was hired by American Airlines.
All in all, a week of many life events.
Aida starts her new job on May 8th. Love,
Pat and Pete |
