| 2002 was not the best
year. Chris was furloughed from United in March. I had the
hardest time finding a job - I went on so many interviews and was turned
down each time.
Finally in April, I decided to go out and get another server position and landed at Beaches. Beaches is located right in Manhattan Beach near the pier with an excellent view of the ocean. After about two months I started bartending. I was finally bartending on the beach (something I said I was going to do when I moved out here). In August, I started working at JR-ONE. My friend Miyako was starting a restaurant with her father and asked if I wanted to be her assistant manager. She knew I had no experience in restaurant management but was confident I could do the job. Working at JR-ONE has been challenging and rewarding. It's amazing watching a restaurant evolve from construction, to opening day, to it's daily operations. Chris meanwhile worked for the Air Force full time, while he wasn't getting his tumor removed or walking around in a cast.
